Jasper Vervaeke studied Romance languages and literature (UAntwerpen), journalism (Lessius Hogeschool) and Latin American Studies (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). He obtained his PhD at UAntwerpen with a dissertation on the Colombian novelist Juan Gabriel Vásquez. Afterwards, he was a researcher and guest professor at KU Leuven, UGent and UAntwerpen. He currently works as a Spanish lecturer at UGent. He has published articles, essays, reviews and literary translations (Spanish-Dutch) in academic and cultural journals. His book Juan Gabriel Vásquez: la distorsión deliberada (Verbum) will be published in 2023. His research revolves primarily around contemporary Spanish-American literature and world literature.
