Ilse Logie is a Professor of Latin American Studies at Ghent University (Department of Literary Studies). From 1986 to 2005 she taught at the University of Antwerp (Department of Translation Studies), where she earned her PhD in 1997 with a dissertation on the notion of mimesis in the work of Argentinian writer Manuel Puig. Her primary line of research focuses on the representation of various forms of violence in contemporary Latin American narratives, with particular emphasis on the Southern Cone (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). She has published extensively on how literature portrays and counters political violence, US-Mexican border violence, gender violence, and “slow violence” – such as colonial or ecological violence – by examining shifts in literary poetics. Additionally, she explores how these works engage with broader societal discourses. A second major focus of her research is translation studies. She chairs the Research Group “Centre for Literature in Translation” CLIV (UGent-VUB) and is currently completing a book on multilingualism and (self)translation as identity-building principles in contemporary Latin-American writing: Escribir entre lenguas: narrativas translingües contemporáneas de América Latina.
