Jo De Brie is a doctoral researcher at the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication (Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University) and is a member of the TRACE research group. She obtained a master in political science and a master in translation (Dutch, English and Spanish), and previously gained professional experience at the European Commission (DGT) and the Flemish Parliament.
Her research is supervised by prof. dr. Bram Lambrecht and concerns Dutch translations of English crime stories that were published in serial form (as feuilletons) in two Flemish newspapers (‘Vooruit’ en ‘Het Volk’) between 1920 and 1939. The main focus is on literary (and social) imaginations of criminality and social class, and the ways in which these were determined by cultural and ideological contexts of production.
