Piet Van Poucke

Piet Van Poucke (°1968) is associate professor in Russian language and culture and head of the Russian section of the department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication (Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Ghent University, Belgium). He obtained his PhD (Ghent University) in 1999 with a dissertation on the early literary work of the Russian-Jewish writer Ilya Ehrenburg. He is member of the steering committee of the “Russia Platform” and coordinator of the annual series of lectures organized by CERISE (Centre for Russian International Socio-political and Economic studies, Ghent University). His current research activities deal with the following topics: translation of journalistic texts from and into Russian, translation of metaphor in journalistic texts, Western translation policy towards Russian literature (and vice versa), and retranslation of (Russian) literature into Western languages. He was guest editor of a special issue of IJLL (International Journal of Literary Linguistics) on “Novel insights in the linguistic study of literary translation” and referee for Meta: Journal des traducteurs / Meta: Translators’ Journal, Multilingua and Cadernos de Tradução. Recently, in February 2017, he organized the international Retranslation in Context III conference, in cooperation with the Centre for Literature in Translation (CLIV).
